DnA Group Project I: Slater C/O Surveillance

Foreword (by Pazuzu)

Casing out, and gaining entry to a Telephone Company C/O is a very dangerous
undertaking. You all know how fascist telco scum are, and here we're trying
to gain entry to their very palace of fascism, The C/O. We did not approach
this project lightly, we planned the whole thing out before we even set foot
near the place. We hope this will serve as a good model should anyone choose
to explore a C/O near their own residence.
WARNING: We DO NOT recommend you do anything like this alone (we didn't!),
and we furthermore recommend you BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL in doing anything of
this nature, as the Phone Scum are very protective of their C/Os, and I
have no doubt in my mind that some of the security employees carry firearms
and wouldn't hesitate to use them.
Background Info (by Pazuzu)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We first decided to undertake this massive (and dangerous!) project on
Saturday, September 4, 1993. This "Background Info" section is information I
had before the Project began, along with a short description of our goals and
purpose in doing this.
The Slater C/O (Central Office, for those that don't know) is a massive telco
(GTE, to be exact) complex stretching from the southwest corner of
Gothard and Slater (in Huntington Beach, CA) to the southeast corner of
Slater and Goldenwest in one direction and from Slater back about two blocks
into Central Park in the other direction. The complex contains two large
parking lots with about 100 miscellaneous telco vehicles in each, and several
large buildings, all of which look like fortresses. This C/O handles
telephone service for most of western Huntington Beach, but due to the sheer
number of vehicles housed there, we suspect they also handle installation,
repair, and probably security services for a much larger area. The whole
complex is surrounded by a standard razorwire fence on all sides.
We wanted to find out what goes on at a large C/O and what types of things
are housed there. Our first goal was (for our own safety!) to case out the
C/O and find out what methods and points of entry were available; what
security they had; number and frequency of Death Nazis (i.e., employees)
walking around and such; things of that nature. The second goal is of course
to actually go inside the complex and find out what's there. That will be
covered in the next issue of DnA.
Saturday Sep. 4, 1993 - Outing I (by Pazuzu)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was our first outing to the C/O as a group. Present were myself, Lestat
de Lioncourt, Vandal, Arclight, Renegage, and Chaos Twit. I did not know it
at first, but the whole south end of the C/O is about two blocks into Central
Park, so we decided to go into the park, act like some friends having a
picnic in the park, and see what the south side held in store for us.
We went into the park, near the C/O's south wall, and sat down in a likely
picnic spot and just watched for about 15 minutes. Now, this was on a
Saturday, so we didn't expect much in/out traffic, but wow were we mistaken!
A truck or van left or came in about once or twice every minute. In addition,
there was at least one employee walking around one parking lot or the other
during at least 70% of the time. Surprisingly enough, we did not notice very
many security cameras at all - a good portion of the south end of the C/O is
unguarded by cameras. Of course, the fence is about 12 feet high along the
back wall, with good ol' razorwire along the top.
Lestat, being an avid spelunker, suggested that there may be tunnels going
under the C/O, so Vandal and Chaos Twit went to take a look closer to the
fence. They found a network of manholes all along the back fence, spaced
about 30 feet apart.
We decided that these manholes should be the focus of our next outing, which
should take place at night.
Due to the neccessity of completing some other DnA / Column Operations, we
will continue the C/O Report next issue.
